CMU signs reverse transfer agreement with Mid Michigan Community College

2012 reverse transfer agreement
Central Michigan University signed a reverse transfer agreement with Mid Michigan Community College today. CMU President George E. Ross and Mid Michigan Community College President Carol A. Churchill signed the formal agreement at MMCC’s Doan Center.

The agreement allows community college students who have completed at least 12 college credits to finish their remaining credit hours for an associate’s degree while attending CMU. The credits taken at CMU can be counted for both the university and MMCC.

“CMU and Mid Michigan Community College are long standing partners committed to student success,” said CMU President George E. Ross. “The reverse transfer agreement provides the opportunity for both institutions to help increase the number of people with degrees in Michigan.”

The partnership assists students transferring to CMU before earning an associate’s degree the chance to count CMU credits toward their associate’s degree. Under the direction of the State of Michigan in Public Act 62, the goal of the agreement is to increase student retention and degree completion at both the community college and university.

“We know that many students take courses at MMCC with the intent to transfer to CMU,” said MMCC President Carol A. Churchill. “This agreement will help students transfer credits from CMU back to MMCC so they can receive an associate’s degree.”

CMU will notify students who transfer from MMCC about this program. Once students have earned a total of 70 hours, they will be notified again and given a link to request their CMU transcript be sent to MMCC for review to confirm they have completed requirements for an associate’s degree.

Rep. Kevin Cotter was awarded the first associate’s degree under the new reverse transfer agreement between CMU and MMCC. Rep. Cotter earned 45 credits as a MMCC student and then transferred to Central.
