CMU ‘fires up’ its smart phone application

New updates to CMU Connect now available on Android devices
CMU announces upgraded smart phone app
Central Michigan University has introduced the next generation of CMU Connect, CMU’s smart phone application available for the iPhone and now available for Android devices. According to a trend report survey by Noel-Levitz, more than half of college bound students look at campus websites via mobile devices.

Associate Vice President of University Communications Renee Walker says the upgraded application is more interactive and makes CMU resources immediately available to everyone.

“The first generation of the CMU Connect application has been downloaded across the U.S. and in 40 countries including China, the United Kingdom and Japan,” Walker said. “CMU’s reach is global and the second generation of CMU Connect gives all users a seamless CMU experience.”

Major features of the app include:
  • News – Get the latest campus news.
  • Twitter – Stream CMU news instantly with a built-in feed.
  • Events – See what’s happening on campus today or in the future.
  • Athletics – Stay posted on the latest Chippewas sports news, schedules and score updates.
  • Multimedia – Watch CMU YouTube videos and look through campus photos from Flickr.
  • Campus map – Find campus buildings and navigate your way around campus.
  • Emergency module – Stay prepared with an emergency module with direct links and phone numbers to safety resources.
  • Polls – Answer questions to play an active role in the university.
  • Fight Song – Play the CMU fight song at the next game or while out with friends.
  • Weather – Get today’s current forecast or check the weather for this weekend’s events.

More than half of public universities have adopted mobile applications as of Fall 2011, according to a campus computing survey. Walker says the upgraded application enhances CMU’s digital presence and our ability to stay connected with the communities the university serves.

The updated CMU Connect application can be found in the Apple App Store for iPhone devices or in the Google Play market for Android devices.
