Burdette, CMU VP of finance and administrative services, announces retirement

David Burdette
David Burdette, vice president of finance and administrative services, today announced his retirement from Central Michigan University, effective July 31, 2013.  Burdette on Jan. 7 will celebrate his fifth anniversary with CMU.

“When I came to Mount Pleasant in 2008, I made a commitment to serve five years,” Burdette said.  “It has been an honor to complete that commitment, serving students, faculty and staff as Central Michigan University expanded its role in this state and across the nation.  Now, my wife, Carol, and I look forward to spending time with our families in New York, Virginia and Australia.”

As the university's chief financial officer, Burdette is responsible for the day-to-day management of CMU’s fiscal and physical resources. He oversees financial services and reporting, budget and planning, human resources, facilities management, residences and auxiliary services, campus police and parking services.

“David has led CMU through tough economic times, securing jobs without layoffs even while state appropriations continued their fall from 22.6 percent of budget in 2008 to 15.75 percent today,” President George Ross said.

“He and his team have led us through several major construction projects, including the College of Medicine and graduate student housing and have started a facilities master planning process that is among the most thorough in the nation.  His role is pivotal to the university, and I thank him for his service,” Ross said.

Burdette also has been instrumental in expanding university relationships with officials from the city of Mount Pleasant, Isabella County and the local region.

Burdette came to CMU from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was vice president for administration and finance from 2006 to 2008.  Prior to that, he served as vice president for business and governmental affairs at Radford University in Virginia from 1997 to 2006.  He worked for a number of years in the State University of New York system and is a retired Lt. Col. of the Army National Guard.

A national search for Burdette’s replacement will begin during the first quarter of 2013.
