Ten teams will tango, ballroom and jazz dance their way through a friendly fundraising competition to raise $10,000 for the 2013 CMU United Way Fund Drive benefiting United Way of Isabella County. The second annual Dance United event will be held at CMU’s Events Center Nov. 7.

The student-organized dance event incorporated professionals from the Truth Dance Company, Off Broadway Performing Arts Studio, Newman School of Dance, the CMU Dance Team and CMU University Theatre Dance Company to train each of the 10 teams individually for the charitable initiative.

CMU United Way student campaign chair Andrew Brown hopes Dance United will unite CMU’s campus with the Mount Pleasant community to generate revenue, create awareness and engage volunteers for United Way services and programs.

“We know that it takes everyone in our community working together to create a positive future,” Brown said. “We hope to raise the profile of 25 local nonprofits through Dance United and engage the community in an effort to support human services to improve lives here in lsabella County.”

The 10 teams taking the stage include:

  • Rick and Mary Barz
  • Jasmine Chatten and Brad Kloha
  • Jennifer Drum and Jason McArt
  • Chelsea Lynn and Crystal Bradford
  • Erin and Scott O’Brien
  • Gabe and Andrea Purrenhage
  • Marie Reimers and Patrick O’Connor
  • Laura Rico and Jeff Ballard
  • René Shingles and George Ronan
  • Jason Vasquez and Grace Stevenson

The Dance United event will kick off at 7 p.m. in the CMU Events Center. Suggested ticket donations of $5 or more will be accepted at the door. A VIP reception will precede the event, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets for the VIP reception begin at $40 a person.
