Detroit Thanksgiving Parade

Central Michigan University alumnus Tony Michaels has taken America’s Thanksgiving Parade from good to great since becoming president and CEO of The Parade Company. In nearly four years of leading Detroit’s most beloved tradition, the 1981 alum has transformed the company, doubling the revenue and adding two of the biggest sponsors in the history of the parade.

“Everything we do we tie into smiles, entertaining moments for families and kids,” said Michaels. “We bring people together, and we celebrate our region.”

Michaels shared a few facts about The Parade Company:

  • 8 new floats this year
  • 21 returning floats
  • 150 Big Heads Corps. members
  • 2,500 volunteers dedicated to The Parade Company
  • 40 freelance artists, working four to six months a year to create floats
  • 13 full-time employees of The Parade Company

America’s Thanksgiving Parade will hit the streets of Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 8:45 a.m. Thousands of paradegoers will be watching live as the parade makes its way down Woodward Avenue. The parade is broadcast live on WDIV Local 4 in Detroit at 9 a.m. and on WJR 760 AM.
